How & why I use my Fliteboard

People often ask me how and why I love Fliteboard. I love that I can use it by myself. I love using with my family as well. I'm already a huge water sports fanatic. So Fliteboarding hasn't taken of the place of the other things I enjoy doing on the water. It just helps me get more time on the water. I find that often efoiling becomes the watersport my customers do the most. This is because the feeling of flying is addicting and they don't need a driver and a spotter to go Fliteboarding. You don't have to have to back a trailer down the boat ramp. You don't have to put gas in it. The maintenance is minimal.
My Fliteboard is the first watersport I do every year. I have a drysuit and before my dock is in I will put my Fliteboard in the water and get the first laps of the season in. Nothing feels better than getting on a Fliteboard to get the first rides of the season after spending a winter away from watersports. In the winter I am lucky if I'm able to do some foiling on vacation. The efoil has really extended my whole season. I tend to get out on my Fliteboard less during the busiest parts of summer because my kids are around and we enjoy slaloming, wakefoiling, show skiing and so many other disciplines. When I do get the Fliteboards out though everyone loves to jump on them and in the busiest times of summer we will have three or four out at a time. The other time I tend to use my board a lot is at the begining and end of the day. Many times during the busy parts of summer I get up early before the rest of the family and the water is perfect. The water is warm and glassy. Instead of making my kids grumpy by dragging them out of bed I give them a little extra time to sleep and I take 2 laps around Clear Lake on my Ultra L2 Fliteboard.
I started my Kasota Sports in 2020 with 2 series one boards. A pro board and a standard board. My boards were some of the first boards in the United States. When Fliteboard launched the Ultra board the next year and released the Flow wings I ordered them immediately for our Fliteschool. At every step and product release I always wanted to test the newest product and understand why I liked or disliked the changes and the product. At my heart I am a foil nerd. When the Fliteboard L2 released, again I was so intrigued to test the limits and feel the nuanced differences. The sport of foiling is so new that all improvements are more significant and coming so quickly. I think we may see some of the improvements slow down as the technology and uses of foils mature.
This summer I ride my Ultra Light 2 with the wave mast all the time. Last year I split more time on the scooter. The truth is L2 feels closer to foiling unpowered. It is lighter, easier to carry and more fun to ride. I love using the Nano battery. The sport feels good as well in the L2 but i still prefer the Nano. People ask me, "Why the wave mast? You don't live on the ocean". True. But I think it is 2 things. First, the whole setup is lighter with the carbon wave. Second, the thinner fuse reduces drag and just feels better. The whole setup has noticebly less drag than a standard aluminum mast to the discerning rider. The wave 1000 wing with 245 tail feels snappy and fun. I am able to breach the wing tips and throw around carves in way that didn't feel nearly as fun before on my Ultra. I still really like the Ultra board with the Flow 1100. I did do a test and I put the wave mast on the original Ultra to see how much of what I liked about the L2 wave mast combo was the board and how much was the carbon wave. I admit it is a combination of the efoil drive and board shape that makes the magic. the narrower profile of the L2 makes for a better roll rate. The narrower longer nose makes the board catch less in the turns. The mast is also moved forward and I think that makes the lift feel more naturally underfoot. I still move my feet a ton though. And when I have ridden it unpowered behind my surf boat it feels more like an unpowered foil setup than ever before. It is so much more fun to poach waves on the L2 than any other Efoil setup I have been on before. I also like going out on a windier days and riding little down wind runners. Something that feels better on this combination than any other I have tried. The carbon wave mast also has a lower gear ratio that allows you to add speed more smoothly when pulling in and out of boat waves.
This has been an amazing summer and foiling is bringing me so much joy this year. Fliteboard is a big part of that Joy. Every improvement and innovation allows something new and more enjoyable to be added to my watersports enjoyment. And when everyone has their docks out in the fall, I will still be out there ripping around on my little blue Ultra L2 Fliteboard. I know people say I'm crazy but that's because they haven't figured out how easy and amazing this really is. And part of me hopes they never will. So please keep this a secret, but if you don't, send them to Kasota Sports.
