Why I love my Flitescooter

I know the Flitescooter is a newer product so I want to take a minute to tell you what I think about the biggest efoil in the Fliteboard lineup. The Jet 2.0 was co-designed with Brunswick and let me tell you they nailed it. It is so much stronger and more efficient than the the original jet it is really a big improvement. Despite the original jet being a bit less efficient, I have to say I really liked the scooter last year. The thing I didn't love was how fast it used the batteries. So with the new co-designed jet efoil the scooter batteries last so much longer and you are able to configure the setup with a Sport battery, which is really nice and gives you a bit of versatility. Overall, I would still like to see this product come down in price a little bit just because it is a big investment for the entry level foiler. I do think the scooter is for everyone though, not just a beginner. It is my second favorite board after my Ultra L2 Fliteboard. If I'm going to jump on a foil these days, I like to go out on my smallest most nimble board or the biggest most stable board. I like the luxury or the Flitescooter. I typically put it on a jet ski lift right off my dock. In that way it has become both a utility item and a great tool for our school. I would also say that last year I realized that from an instructor's point of view, we didn't transition off the scooter quickly enough for some clients. This year my emphasis turned into moving quickly enough to off set foot the student's foot position and then remove the handle bars. Then move the student to a 100L board. I like to keep the progression moving; if it makes sense for the student and they can get the hang of the 100L I will transition a student to a pro board after they get the hang of the standard 100L Fliteboard. It is always a judgement call for me as an instructor. When someone rides a hoverboard with handle bars they can't help but having an amazing time. As an instructor, sometimes the challenge is balancing my goals for the student and getting feeback to understand their personal goals. I see myself as a guide and I have given some great lessons where the student had huge success with the scooter and at the same time the student never wanted to move on to riding the board without the handles bars. I think in these cases I was only one who was a little bummed. I love to see the progression and I want to see the student try as many different boards as they can during a lesson. I always remain focused on our main goals though: Saftey, Fun and Learning. If a student comes to my school, they stay safe and have fun and learn nothing - no big deal we still hit our top 2 goals. To me it's all about fun. If a student came out and learned everything there is to know about foiling in one day but they didn't have any fun that lesson woud be a complete failure. Now I don't think that is possible because of how inherently fun foiling is but it just goes to show how focused I am on the top 3 goals of my experience center and our teaching location. To be honest the scooter is a blast!! I love coaching from it as well. One day I took out on my jet ski and tried to coach an efoiler while riding on the gas powered personal watercraft and I was amazed at how loud the Jet Ski was. It made it hard to hear in my BBTalkin and it was really smelly as well. When you are cruising around on a quiet efoil that doesn't take any gasoline and then you jump on a loud stinky jet ski the difference in stark. I couldn't wait to get off that Jet Ski. So I love that the scooter as a multi purpose tool. It's great for kids or your grandmother who doesn't have the mobility to make the lunge step needed to get up on the 100L. It has literally been a lesson saver for me. There are some clients who will never progress past the flitescooter and will be happy with that as their only efoil. There was one lesson that I gave and it was scheduled a month in advance. On the day they came the water was choppy. They father and son both had huge successes on the scoot. They both tried the 100L board with limited success. They wanted to try the boards without the handle bars and we it didn't go that well because it was just so wavy. That is rare for me because the predominant wind for us is a south west and typically we sit in the lee. Also, the big lesson months for us are June, July and August and those are considered by sailors to be the summer duldrums. Not saying it is never windy but those are the flattest and calmest months of the year for wind in the midwest. Ultimately they never really got it going without the bars. And that was ok because they had an amazing time. So at the end of the day some people may progress to a smaller board and some people may choose to buy multiple board. Hopefully people will learn from me how great it is to put the scooter on a waverunner lift like me. I think if you become a Fliteboard family there is one thing that is true for most families. You are going to have guests and they are going to see you riding your boards. They will want to try foiling. It is my feeling with a few tips the easiest and most accesible way to learn is on a scooter. So I love this product because it allows a novice to safely learn foiling in 30 minutes or less for most people. When you ride the scooter the bars allow you save yourself from falling sometimes. Sometimes you tip the board to the side. By the time you finally let go of the bars you are going less than 10mph. So in this way the scooter just makes this sport more accessbile to more people. The falls are typically so slow they feel like you are falling in slow motion. Also, if someone uses the scooter enough they will improve their foiling and then their chances for success on the other boards goes way up. The fact is efoiling is the easiest foiling discipline and it is something you can do by yourself. You don't need wind and you can practice as much as you want. Fliteboard is the gateway. If you become good at Fliteboarding all the other harder foil disciplines will become eaiser. One of the biggest objections to Fliteboard is the expense of it. Well I think of it this way: it's the cheapest way to Fly. Go price a plane and a helicopter and then tell me how expensive you think it is. People say, "well I can go get a jet ski for a similar price". I challenge you to ride and jet ski and ride a fliteboard then tell me which one is more fun. Don't get me wrong there is a time and a place for a jet ski. That being said I personally ride my Fliteboards way more!! If you want to start this journey and you are looking for a guide I will be happy to show you the way. Enjoy the journey and try an live about 28" above the water my friends!!
